  2. It’s a great list, but I must hardly disagree about the first item entirely. It assumes that ask Potterheads were introduced to the series before the arrival of our 11th birthdays. I am most definitely a proud Potterhead, but I’d have definitely been in need of a time to if I were to get my hands on these books prior to my 11th birthday. I’m 42 years old. I’ve raised 4 boys, ages 29 and 28 (adopted) 20 and 17. I have a two year old grandson who will be forever endocrinated in the ways of the Potterverse, not only by his 20 year old father and 19 year old mother (also proud Potterverse, as are all my children), but mostly by his super-fan grandmother.

I became aware of Harry Potter when I had just started to homeschool my oldest, a reluctant reader who literally learned to LOVE reading through the process of devouring the first books that ever really struck his fancy- a process that each of my boys went through in turn. Having to know the material in order to teach it, I also started reading, and I suspect that none of my children’s love of the series outshines my own.

Of course, I have an added reason to love Harry Potter- all of my children LOVE to read, and Harry Potter is what ignited that love of reading. They share my passion for books and learning. They understand everything they read (and know how to clarify any information they may not understand), thanks in large part to their eagerness to catch every detail of every Harry Potter book. J K Rowling’s outstanding contributions to the literary world have given us a series of books that, while aimed at young readers, was never dumbed-down, insignificant, forgettable twaddle, but full fledged literature that challenges and engages the reader. Each of my sons’ vocabulary expanded tremendously with each book they read, and that’s not all. This series introduced them to some very important, very character and value building concepts that can be difficult to introduce. My kids are better, more compassionate understanding men as a result. What mother could fail to love a series of books that brought about all of that for her children?

  3. Every single item is freaking true ! I relate to the first above all, since, when I was in middle school, I wrote an essay explaining I was dreaming of receiving my Hogwarts letter…….. I guess all of us, potterheads, are a little bit crazy at times !
